MATTHEW 12:43-45 (ESV)
When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but find none. Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also it will be with this evil generation.

Have you read the scripture above before? It compares a person to a house. People can be hosts for spirits. If this verse refers to an unclean spirit, that means, there are clean spirits, too.

The Holy Spirit is the clean spirit. When we declare Jesus as our Lord and Savior (as it states in Romans 10:9), we are saved. It's important to receive a baptism of the Holy Spirit.

In Acts 2, there were Christian believers who didn't even know about the Holy Spirit until Paul told them. Then verse 6 says that they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18 says to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Greek work used for "filled" in this verse refers to wind filling a sail to move a ship forward. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, He will move you forward in your walk with God and give you direction.

To answer the question in the title of this post, Christians cannot be demon-possessed, but Christians can be demon-oppressed. This means that demons are influencing your life and they need to be stopped.

While demonic deliverance is a complex topic, it's still important to know its crucial aspects. If you think demons are influencing your life, we want to help you!

Printable: Basic Steps to Deliverance

DEAR LORD,

I repent of all my sins--known and unknown. I repent of pride, unbelief, and disobedience. I break agreement with the lie that my sins don't matter. I receive Your amazing grace to read Your Word, to understand Your Word, and to live out Your Word every day of my life. I thank You that even while I was a sinner, Christ died for me. Holy Spirit, I ask that You continue to reveal to me the lies that I've been believing and help me make good godly decisions. I receive God's grace to partner my thoughts, my words, and my actions with His truth. I ask in Jesus' name.

Amen.
