God is real. Jesus loves you. Your life matters.

LIE vs. TRUTH: Does God love me?

2 min read

JOHN 3:16 (NIV)
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

It's very likely you've heard that verse before. Why do you think John 3:16 is so well known?

Could it be that everyone is looking for love? Could it be that everyone is wondering what actually happens when we die? I once heard a famous radio host, Larry King, interviewing a pop star who rose to fame in the early 2010s for her controversial and outlandish fashion sense.

Larry asked the pop star, "Do you want to be married? What do you think?"
The pop star responded matter-of-factly, "I'm looking for love just like everyone else, Larry."

The pop star's response really got me thinking and many years later, I'm still thinking about her response. It's so true. Everyone is looking for love. Some are looking for it in the wrong places and some in the right places.

One of the biggest lies is that God doesn't love us.

Revelation 2:4 refers to the Lord as our first love. God wants to be and remain our first love. Why?
His love is the most reliable,
His love is the most powerful,
His love is the most proven.

When we truly grasp how much God loves us and that He created us out of love and for love, then we can begin to unpack our true identity.

Being rooted and grounded in God's love is key to everything in life. We won't be easily deceived by the adversary (enemy). We won't compromise our faith just to feel loved by everyone else. We won't fall prey to so many other lies about our value and about belonging in this world.

When we're firmly rooted in the truth that we already have God's full love, we also won't be striving to earn it. And in turn, we won't expect others to strive to earn or appreciate our love because we understand that true love is freely given, not earned.

DEAR LORD,

I break agreement with the lie that You do not love me. I receive Your amazing grace to believe the truth that You love me and gave Your Son so that I could l could have eternal life. I thank You that even while I was a sinner, Christ died for me. Holy Spirit, I ask that You continue to reveal to me the truth of God's love for me. I receive God's grace to partner my thoughts, my words, and my actions with this truth. I ask in Jesus' name.

Amen.
